Words in a Word now on Xbox Live Indie Games!!
Posted by Xavi Sanchez | November 27, 2009 |
Finally we passed the review process and Words in a Word is now available on Xbox Live Indie Games for only 240 MS Points. And this is our third game on XBLIG after Planet Delta and Bomb Disposal Expert.
In the game you have to make as many words as you can from the letters of a six-letter word within the time limit. You can practice alone or play on-line with up to 4 players for a place on the global scoreboards.
If you like this kind of game… give it a try, we think you’ll like it

Hi, I really like Words in a Word and have reviewed it on my website! I am wondering about the features that unlock when you purchase the game? Do you get unlimited time to make anagrams?

Hi Ben! Thanks for the nice review
When you purchase the game you have 120 seconds to make words, and you can play on-line with up to 4 people.
We are working on a new real-time scoreboard that shows how well are you doing when you are playing alone.

hmm, even 120 seconds seems like not enough. This is the kind of game I and many others would sit for hours at trying to get all of the words, if we could.
Also I am wondering what dictionary you used for your game?

are the letters randomly given each time we play or predetermined?
December 7th, 2009 @ 12:03
The letters are randomly given. There is always a 6-letter word and between 40 and 50 more words.
We set the time limit because one of the goals of the game is to get the better score, and if we didn’t set a time, every player could always get the max score.
But we will think about adding a new feature to play the game without time limit but no scores.
And we used a huge dictionary
with hundreds of 6-letters words.

Yeah I really think you should add that feature. Its true that you set your own goals when creating the game, but you must understand that users will also set their own goals. It’s impossible to design for what your users want, but I believe in giving as many options as possible.
I also really think you need to add in some definitions. The definitions would fit perfectly into the game at the end after all of the possible words are revealed. The user could scroll through the grid and as they do so, the definitions are revealed on the right hand side of the screen. Adding an unlimited time mode and definitions would turn your game into a highly interesting educational tool. Not to mention a fantastic Scrabble trainer.
